The Dalai Lama is one of the greatest spiritual leaders in the world today. Over the years he has shared some incredibly profound and wise things that have the power to literally change the way you live life and look at life. In this article I will share with you 5 of his wise quotations along with my comments and elaboration on them. Enjoy!
“In order to carry a positive action we must develop here a positive vision.”
This Dalai Lama quote teaches us that action is a result of thought. We are not machines that perform our actions mechanically. Behind everything we do there is a thought, a motivation that precedes it. Take a look at writings/speeches from all the great leaders in the world and you will realize that their thinking too was beautiful which led to beautiful action.
Average leaders on the other hand have a limited scope of vision which is why they produce average results.
“Happiness is not something ready made. It comes from your own actions.”
Most of us think that happiness is something that happens to us automatically when everything is going right. And this may seem logical as well but does this mean that happy people have nothing wrong going on in their lives? Far from it, most happy people are facing almost all of the real world problems that you are facing but they choose to respond to it differently.
When things are bad, they deliberately choose to engage themselves in activities that keep them upbeat. They hang out around positive people. They consume positive literature. It is thus their actions that are keeping them happy despite the great problems surrounding them.
This Dalai Lama quote teaches us that even in the worst of the situations happiness is still a choice.
“No matter what sort of difficulties, how painful experience is, if we lose our hope, that’s our real disaster.”
Pain is something we all go through, there is nobody in this world who has not experienced pain. In fact pain is necessary to appreciate joy. and experience happiness. If there were never any pain, how you would you appreciate healing? When you encounter pain you have two choices, you can either roll over and die or you can fight back and emerge a winner and it is hope that you are going to have to rely on.
When nothing seems to be working out and you still keep pushing on, people will say your hopes are unrealistic and that life doesn’t work that way. The truth is it is hope that makes life work. When you stop hoping you stop living.
“If you think you are too small to make a difference, try sleeping with a mosquito.”
This hilarious Dalai Lama quote may seem like a joke but it is actually incredibly profound. How often has it been that we have doubted ourselves because we think we are too insignificant? How often have you thought that you have too little a stature to make any sort of impact in your life?
Do you know that two tiny little atoms colliding under the right conditions can release a MASSIVE amount of energy. This is how nuclear reactions work. But those atoms only do so under extraordinarily high temperatures and pressure. Sort of like hell
The question you need to ask is, are you willing to go through hell to get to what you want. If the answer is yes, it doesn’t matter how small you are, you too can make a massive impact on the world.
“Remember that sometimes not getting what you want is a wonderful stroke of luck.”
This Dalai Lama Quote is one of my favorites! When we don’t get what we want, we often get angry and frustrated as it seems that universe is being unfair with us. In fact this happens every day. People get rejected in love, at jobs, in business or in anything they want in life that they deeply care about. At that point it seems that the world has ended. And yet many times, as many of you will agree, not getting what we wanted seems to the biggest blessing when we look back in the past. Because if we hadn’t lost what we wanted before we would never have been able to get what we value the most today. Whether it is a love rejection or a professional one, losing it is not the end of the world because it brings with it incredible opportunities.
Still don’t believe me? Let me tell you a story. In 2009, a man named Brian Acton applied for a job at Facebook. He was rejected. He was crushed but he tweeted that he was looking forward to where life took him next. Well, where it took him next was something he wouldn’t even have imagined in his wildest dreams. The man made a company which hit it big and he later sold his company to another company for a big profit. The company he made was Whatsapp. The Company he sold Whatsapp to was Facebook itself. Today Brian is worth 4 Billion Dollars. Still think it is the end of the world because you didn’t get what you wanted.
