Why Being In The Right Place At The Right Time Is Not Enough Unless You Do This!
People often attribute success to “Being at The Right Place At The Right Time”. This statement misses one crucial element.
Warren Buffett, the great investor often says his success is due to the fact that he is in the right place in the right time. He is born in a free country at a time when the stock market exists. But hundreds of millions are in the same situation and yet not as wealthy as him. Why? That is because Buffett is the right person as well, due to his incredible resource allocation skill.
Facebook and Google are all companies whose very existence was not fathomable 30 years ago because there was no Internet. If the internet was not there, these companies would not be there, period. But thousands of companies had the chance to be in the same place at the same time as them. Why did they fail? Why did Google and Facebook become successful? Because, along with some element of serendipity, they were the best at fulfilling specific demands of the market. They were the right companies.
You maybe at the Right Place at Right Time but are you the right person/company?
Unless you are the right person/right organization, you may regularly be at the right place at the right time and still, things may not happen.
The good news is, there doesn’t have to be just one right person/company. There can be quite a few right people/companies. Furthermore, the definition of “right” may also vary from customer to customer. Android Phones are right for one kind of customer and iPhones are right for another kind. But no matter what, you need to be the darling of one segment of the market and that segment has to be large enough to fulfill the revenue goals of your organization.
If you can focus on being the right person/right organization to the right segment of the market at the right time, that truly is the key to becoming a Power Player and dominating your field!
